In 2023, one of the founders of Oneplus presented the result of his new venture, the Nothing Phone 1, the first smartphone from Nothing that has attracted many people’s attention since its launch. Nothing’s Story
In early 2021, Nothing was created by Billionaire Carl Pei, co-founder of Oneplus, but of smartphones that also gained notoriety in many markets for its well-performing devices, including its first devices being considered “top of the line killers”. With Nothing, the proposal is already present in the name, with a series of products that go unnoticed or “disappear” in environments, for being transparent, like the the head phones TWS War 1.
No Phone, But A Lot Of iPhone
Amidst the doldrums of smartphone design, except folding ones, the Nothing Phone differs significantly from most Android devices. Still, there is explicit inspiration from the classic design of iPhones, whose similarities are evident, such as the rear in glass and the module with two cameras, in addition to the aluminum sides.
Still, on the translucent back, this feature allows you to view the inside of the smartphone, but not sensitive parts such as the SOC with the chipset, GPU and other components. The back also has lights that turn on when the device is in use and serve as visual feedback for everyday notifications, such as messaging apps and sleep mode.
Transparent And With Good Power
Despite the similarities with the iPhone, the performance capacity of the Nothing Phone 1 is different from that of a top-of-the-line, but enough to please a wide range of users. With a 778G Plus processor, the device is available in versions with Snapdragon 778 G +, in addition to versions with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal space or 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage. Nothing Phone is a premium intermediary, capable of running everything and handling the most intense use routine—no maximum power and no crashes or chokes.
The device’s screen is also of quality, but within the current market average, being a 6.5-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The front camera is at the top left of the screen and has 16 MP. At the rear, we have two 50 M cameras, one wide and the other ultrawide, while video capability goes up to 4K at 30 frames per second with the primary lens. The battery is another standard specification for 2023, which does not compromise with its 4,500 mAh.
Beautiful But Lousy Value For Money
Despite being quite stylish and not a top-of-the-line smartphone, there is currently Hype around the Nothing Phone, which makes the price high for a device with settings consistent with that of a premium intermediary.
On Aliexpress, Nothing phone can be found for R$2,194 in its version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal space. The version with 256 GB of storage costs R$2,415. At the time of publication of this text, we did not find availability for the more powerful version with 12 GB of RAM. The device will likely be taxed based on the values found.
So far, the device is most exciting for consumers who appreciate design innovations or like handsets that run away from standards. Despite having exciting specifications for all types of users, some “conventional” devices deliver more for a lower price, such as the Poco F4.
